Answer by wires
I would say there would be no problem. Unless there are directions to the contrary in the instructions that came with the batteries and charger there is no guarantee that the batteries are used at the same time and under the same load. This mean that even if the batteries were of the same capacity they may not be discharged an equal amount. In other words, one battery might need 1600 mAh worth of charge and another 2100 mAh worth of charge. The charger design has to be able to handle this situation. Otherwise you would have to charge each battery individually.

From the ratings, you’re talking about AA batteries. Although they’re rated slightly different, the closeness presents no problem. You’re talking about a 7% difference. If it were 2700 vs 2100 or especially 1800, I’d say don’t do it.
If someone wanted to do careful, highly regulated tests, they could find results that show some little detriment, but it’s so small and insignificant, in real life you won’t care. Being an electrical engineer all my life, I don’t have a website for you. But the rating is just an average based upon tests across many of their samples, and a specific unit can vary in actuality.
Use them together without worry. Keep in mind that, as one of the old batteries becomes less reliable, so will its mate since it’s about the same age of usage.
