23rd January 2012 Cat: Rechargeable Battery Charger with 3 Comments

I love using them, but rechargeable batteries are expensive, you have to pay for the charger and most of all, you have to pay for the electricity from the power company to charge them. I’m wondering if they really cut down on the cost of powering electronics. And normal batteries or rechargeables: which is the more green option anyway?

to be “green” usually means you pay more.

Rechargeable batteries will save you money if you use a LOT of batteries. You can by a lot of alkaline cells for the cost of one Li-ion battery.

For devices like digital cameras you can pretty much bet your sweet behind they do. Look at how much money a set of alkalines actually is. 4 AAs are at least 3.50-4.00 dollars 4 rechargables are more like 10.00 but can be re-used 1000 times and the Ni-Mh actually last longer! The charger draws so little current it isn’t even a legitimate argument (we are talking maybe a 1 dollar of an entire years period).

Rechargeable are the best for the environment. And if you think about the money you are saving … in the end the rechargeable batteries are what is saving you in the end. The power that the charger uses to charge those batteries is really nothing at all. You can even buy a on the go charger that you can plug into your cigarette lighter while you are out and about. That will cost you nothing to use it the only time it will cost you is when you buy it. Having rechargeable batteries comes to to convenience and they are so much more convenient then disposable batteries. You can buy some rechargeable batteries that come with a charger (plug in wall outlet and cigarette lighter plug) for cheap from a place like http://www.needbattery.com
