24th November 2011 Cat: Rechargeable Battery Charger with 1 Comment

I am a freelance photographer (amateur). I use rechargeable batteries for my camera. Lately I am finding that once the batteries are charged and removed from the charger, if I don’t use them for a while, when I do go to use them they are dead. Any suggestions?

Best answer about How do you keep NiMH rechargeable batteries from discharging once they are removed from the charger?

I would put your batteries in the fridgerator. Keeps them cold and slows down the chemical reaction that produces electricity. That is what we used to do with batteries in the military to store them long term.

Keeping your batteries cool will help them last longer when not being used or charged.

Heat will exacerbate the discharge process.

NiMH batteries have a discharge curve of roughly 33%/month at room temp.
