1st December 2011 Cat: Rechargeable Battery Charger with 2 Comments

It carry 6 batteries and charger when we travel. It seems that they don’t last long. Are the newer cameras any better with the battery issue?

Best answer about I would like to know of a good rechargeable battery to use for my digital camera. I use doulbe A batteries.?

i have a canon that takes 4 AA batteries. I have the rayovac 15 min recharable AA batts. they last a long time close to 300 pictures, there is also a car adapter avail through rayovac for the charger. so when ever i am on the go i can always recharge some in just 15 minutes. since yours uses 6 AAs, i would recommend a total of 12 AAs. You would have a set to use, when the other is charging.

Not all, but some of the newer cameras are definitely more power efficient. On the other hand, brighter and bigger LCDs also tend to eat up much power.

Try the UniRoss 2500 MaH batteries – they are the longest lasting ones. Recently I went on a 2-day photoshoot with my Sony digicam (it uses 2 AA batts), and only one set of spare batteries. Was more than sufficient for me – One set lasted around 12 hours with heavy use, and after popping the second set in, the I put the 1st set to charge, and it was ready the next morning.

Sony and Canon OEM batteries also provide good performance. I definitely don’t recommend Panasonic batteries.

Get yourself some Nickle Metal Hydride batteries. If you are serious in your work, get yourself a good Intelligent charger as well. The intelligent charger will discharge your batteries to zero before it charges them back up. Most have a button for quick charge as well. When looking for rechargeable batteries, look for the MhA rating. The higher the better for cameras. It will be on the package as well as the battery itself. Look for something in the line of say at least a 1800 MhA rating. When I purchased my first digital camera about 8 years ago, I purchased both the intelligent charger and a two sets of 1300 MhA batteries. I still use them to this day. For travel I purchased a DC to AC converter that I plug into my cig lighter, then plug my charger into the converter. Remember to conserve battery life, you should turn off your LCD screen if possible. All in all, I have three cameras that take 4 batteries each. I keep a second set for the field, so the total would be 24 batteries that I cycle through the recharger. I have not had the need to purchase new batteries in more than 8 years, except for when I purchased another camera. The math is simple. Good Luck and happy shooting
