A Canon with a lithium Ion battery. I presently use a Sony that uses “AA” batteries, so I don’t have to worry about recharging. Thinking about
a Canon, Olympus, or Panasonic that use a rechargeable. I’d hate to charge it, then find out it’s almost out of juice when I finally use it. Thanks

As with all Li-ion batteries, after about 400 recharges, they start to fade.
Better just to charge then the night before you plan to shoot … if they need charging. I can go weeks without charging the batteries on my DSLR, that means I can get five or six assignments on one charge.

You can also buy recharge batteries in AA size – I know I use them exclusively on a point and shoot that I own.
You’re probably wiser to pull the battery, or camera, off charge when it tells you charging is completed. It probably won’t hurt anything but why take the chance.
Today’s batteries don’t lose power nearly as quickly as the old technology so unless you’re going to leave the camera in the cabinet for long periods, as in months, I wouldn’t worry about taking the camera or batteries off charge.
Also, if you do leave the camera in the cabinet for long periods, if the batteries will remove it’s best to take them out. The only thing you’ll have to do when you reload them is reset the time and date and you’ll be up and running.
When you unplug it & plug it back in constantly when it doesnt need charged it messes up the battery…so id only charge it when you need to
