22nd February 2012 Cat: Rechargeable Battery Charger with 1 Comment

I use a battery powered razor and electric toothbrush. They both use AA batteries and every few weeks or so, I have to replace the batteries. Rather than constantly buying new AA batteries, would I be better off if I just bought rechargeable AA batteries and a charger?

It would make economic sense to use rechargables in place of batteries that need replacing every few weeks. Get a type of NiMH sold as “precharged” or “low self discharge” such as Sanyo Eneloops or Duracell Precharged. They cost slightly more that ordinary NiMH cells but that fact that they’ll continue to hold a large percentage of their charge even if you don’t use them for a year or more make them the best available.

these devices are not particularly voltage sensitive, so rechargeable should work fine. one caveat, since rechargeable have a lower voltage output, you will probably need to recharge like once a week in lieu of replacing once every few weeks. a little bit more hassle, but a goodly savings in money.
